Important Change Coming in 2019!
In keeping with local churches as well as school districts in the area, Westwood defines elementary programs as going through 5th grade. Our existing programming reflects this, with the exception of Summer Hummer.
What does this mean for Summer Hummer? Starting in 2019, registrations will be accepted for campers through 5th grade. It’s going to be an exciting change in our program, allowing additional younger kids the opportunity to attend. With that said, if you are a parent/guardian serving as Summer Hummer staff in 2019 and you have a 6th grader, your student will have the opportunity to participate as a camper. Please email usif you have questions or need additional clarification.
Thank you for your understanding as we strive to show kids the meaning of life while having the time of their life! 2018 - Campers through current 6th grade 2019 - Campers through current 5th grade
DO YOU OFFER SCHOLARSHIPS?
Limited scholarships are available and each family is responsible for a minimum of $25 per child. Please email email@example.com to request a Scholarship Application. Scholarships are on a first come, first serve basis.
CAN MY CHILD BE WITH HIS/HER FRIENDS?
You may request your child to be placed with oneother camper within one grade of your child. The camper that you request must be a mutual request to be guaranteed. We cannot guarantee your child will be placed with them if the request is not mutual.
WHERE SHOULD I PICK UP MY CHILD?
In order to accommodate such large numbers of children safely, we must exercise security measures. We are asking for your cooperation and know it is for the safety of your children.
Parents or guardians will need to pick up their children (in person) in the designated spot for their group in the front parking lot – 12:30pm for Half Day Camp and 4:00 pm for Full Day Camp. Please do not pick up your child from inside the church building. Children will be released only from the parking lot.
We want Summer Hummer to be a positive experience for all. There are several things you, as parents, can do to help us achieve this goal:
The parking lots are very busy at drop-off and pick-up times. Please be extra alert while driving. The children are excited and may not be paying attention to the traffic. They can appear suddenly from between cars.
To assure your full attention is on your driving, please do not talk or text on your cell phone.
To find a parking spot and leave the site quickly, please follow the instructions of the Security Team directing traffic.
At the end of the day, meet your child in the assigned assembly area in front of the church. It is important the counselor is aware you are leaving with your child. If a child disappears from their group without the counselor’s knowledge, they will issue a lost child alert which may lead to closing the campus until the child is found. Each car leaving the site will need to be inspected for the missing child. This can lead to serious traffic problems and lengthy delays for everyone.
Note: In order to pick up your child, you must present the security card that matches the number on your child's wristband. If you have lost your card, the counselor will not let you take your child. You will need to come to the Summer Hummer Headquarters desk to have ID checked. This is for your child's safety. New cards and wristbands will need to be issued from HQ.
It takes time to get several hundred cars in and out of our campus. We appreciate your patience and cooperation.
WHAT IF I MUST PICK UP MY CHILD EARLY FROM CAMP?
If you need to pick up your child early from camp, let your counselor know ahead of time. When you arrive on campus, you must check in at the Summer Hummer Headquarters (just inside main doors) to receive a visitors pass and escort for your child. Unfortunately, there is no way to deliver phone messages.
CAN SOMEONE ELSE PICK UP MY CHILD FROM CAMP?
If anyone other than the person dropping the child off is picking them up, the parent/guardian must let the counselor know ahead of time. That person will be required to show your child's counselor the security card with the number on it that matches the number on your child's wristband. Children will only be released if the security card and wristband numbers match.
WHAT SHOULD MY CHILD BRING TO CAMP EACH DAY?
Campers are encouraged to bring a backpack to carry their belongings with them each day.
We are encouraging all the Summer Hummer campers to bring loose change each day for our missions fund-raising project.
Campers are required to wear close-toed shoes.
Bring a bathing suit and towel on your child's water day for our afternoon water activities. Children do not have to participate in the water games, but should be prepared to get wet. Half Day campers will also have a water day in the morning. No water guns are allowed at camp.
**Full Day campers and counselors need to bring a sack lunch each day.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT ON MONDAY MORNING?
Camp begins at 9:00am, but Monday we encourage you to bring campers 20 minutes early - There will be lots of traffic so please come early and your patience is appreciated!
The week before camp, you will receive an email with your child's Counselor and Group Name. We expect close to 1000 people the first day and it gets crazy. Your patience and smile will be greatly appreciated! There will be a help desk available if you have any questions. You may take your child(ren) directly to his/her Counselor. Counselors will have signs with their names on them and the parking lot is divided up by Group Name.
DO YOU HAVE A DRESS CODE?
Campers must wear close-toed shoes.
Camp t-shirts will be given out on Monday morning and need to be worn each day of camp. Please do not cut or rip the t-shirt during this week.
WHAT HAPPENS FRIDAY at CLOSING assembly?
Friday,July 13, is the final day of regular camp so we will be extending our closing assembly so pick up time will be 4:30pm!
WHAT HAPPENS ON the SUNDAY after summer hummer?
SUPER SUMMER HUMMER SUNDAY!
All of the kids who participated in Summer Hummer are invited back on the Sunday following Camp, 11:30am-4pm for Super Summer Hummer Sunday! This is the final event for the week and the kids can invite their friends and family to come and experience a taste of what they experienced all week!
NO MEDIA DEVICES AT SUMMER HUMMER
Please leave home any IPODS, MP3 players, Gameboys, Nintendo DSs, PSP's or the like. If a child needs to carry a cell phone, texting and/or phone calls should be limited to emergency needs or drop-off and pick-up information only. Too many of these devices are lost at camp.
WHAT ARE SECURITY WRISTBANDS?
SECURITY WRISTBAND INSTRUCTIONS PLEASE READ CAREFULLY! YOUR CHILD WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO ATTEND CAMP WITHOUT THEIR WRISTBAND ON EACH DAY. THIS IS HIS OR HER TICKET TO CAMP.
In your Summer Hummer camper packet, you will find a numbered wristband and two matching security cards for each child. If you have more than one child attending camp, we suggest that you use a permanent marker to write each child’s name on his or her corresponding numbered cards.
Each child will be required to wear the enclosed wristband for the duration of camp. This is your child’s “ticket” into camp. If your child does not have a wristband when they show up for camp each day, they will not be permitted to stay unless a new wristband is purchased.
In the event that the child loses the wristband or the parent/guardian loses the matching security card, it will be necessary for you to purchase a new wristband with matching security cards for $5.These can be purchased in the Summer Hummer Headquarters just inside the main doors of the church.
In order to pick up your child from camp each day, you will be required to show your child’s counselor the security card with the number on it that matches the number on your child’s wristband. Children will only be released if the security card and wristband numbers match.
